Diego “Nightmare” Sanchez vs. Clay “Carpenter” Guida Verbally Agreed

By Garrett Bailey

MMAjunkie is reporting that Diego “Nightmare” Sanchez and Clay “Carpenter” Guida have verbally agreed to fight on The Ultimate Fighter 9 Finale on June 20.

Diego Sanchez recently defeated Joe “Daddy’ Stevenson at UFC 95 in London after making the switch to the lightweight division. Clay Guida split decisioned¬† Nate Diaz on UFC 94 and improves his UFC record to 6-2.

The frenetic pace of Guida will surely be discussed, although the effectiveness of that pace can be questioned as he put on a subpar performance against Nate. It looks like the UFC is banking on these guys to bring their A game and entertain the crowd. I’m looking forward to seeing them do that. Is the road to a UFC lighweight title shot begin with Clay Guida?

Diego is a TUF winner that Dana wants to see make it because he is a well known fighter. Guida is not a “top contender” and it would make sense for Diego to fight Sherk first. But if Florian wins against BJ then he will fight Diego next. If Florian loses I could see Diego getting a title shot if he beats Guida. Either way there is a Sanchez vs. Florian match up in the future.
