Strikeforce Announces Shields vs. Lawler For Showtime Event; Man Cyborg and Babalu
By Garrett Bailey
Strikeforce held their press conference today in Los Angeles and announced Jake Shields will face Robbie Lawler in the main event. Televised live on Showtime, the May event will most likely be held in the Seattle area according to MMAjunkie.
Fighting at a catch weight of 182lbs, Lawler and Shields are former EliteXC champions coming off victories from Scott Smith and Josh Thompson. Lawler fought Smith 2 times in a row because he accidently poked him in the eye and he was unable to continue, so I’m sure Lawler is happy he is fighting something else. Although they left EliteXC as champions, this fight won’t be a championship bout and is only set for 3, 5 minute rounds.
Renato Babalu Sobral and man Cyborg Evangelista Santos are scheduled to appear on the card as well. Man Cyborg is always exciting, win or lose. His wife shares the same nickname and she’s scheduled to appear on the April 11 Strikeforce event, so they could possibly be in attendance to see each other get punched in the face.
